42 Wolfsburg is brand new and opened their first round of “Piscine” — the famous super-intensive selective process to get into the school — ever! But due to covid-19, they are doing it remotely.

In this post, you will find some tips to prepare for the Piscine that might be a little different from the others you will see around the web, since I’m writing from the point of view of a woman, and we were only aprox. 25% of the participants in March of 2021. So here is a brief introduction of myself: I am originally from São Paulo…

We are finally here. After the roller-coaster that was the Piscine and the happiness of being accepted into the very first batch of students of 42 Wolfsburg, we have officially started the curriculum!

The school had an online opening ceremony on May 10th, and the next day we had the official kick-off, at 9:42. It was nice to see everyone again, the staff, and also a lot of new faces, from the other Piscines. I also noticed that several people decided to start later, in November or maybe next year.

Now, I have to give some context here before going…

A little over a week after the end of the remote Piscine, during the Easter holiday in Germany, I received the best news: I got in!

This was by far a better gift than any chocolate eggs. I was so excited that I started jumping in the middle of the living room, like a child. After I published the conclusion of my remote Piscine posts, I went back and re-read all of them. Looking back, I feel like I had a great evolution during the whole process, and I am very happy that this was confirmed by my acceptance into…

So here we are. I can’t decide if the past 4 weeks flew by or if they felt like a year. But it doesn’t really matter, because I am very proud of my progress during the Piscine.

I’ve learned so much, that it definitively feels like more than just a month. I feel like everything I studied can be applied to much more than Shell or C. …

Don’t Panic.

*/Warning: this post is heavily descriptive of my mental state by the last week of the Piscine. So if you are not in a good day, or you are not interested in this type of content, you can jump to the next one, which is the conclusion of the whole Piscine./*

The week already started with a “bang”: my rush01 evaluation was on the first slot, at 10:00 am. Luckily I woke up a bit earlier to check this and had time to grab a coffee before it started. The other person who worked on the project and…

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

The third week arrived, and I am feeling very tired. Not just physically but also mentally. Everything hurts. I can’t sleep properly because I keep thinking about C and evaluations. Before this all started, I’ve read posts and watched videos of people saying they cried a lot during piscine, that they felt like giving up. I don’t feel like that at all, I haven’t cried or considered giving up, not once. But I am very stressed and grumpy.

To be honest, I feel annoyed by…

There is an art, it says, or rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.

Little flags forming the phrase “everyone can code”

This is it. The “official” start of the Piscine. At 9:42 we had a Kick-off meeting, and after that we gained access to the very first challenge.

For the challenges, you have to go to your intra profile, find the list of projects and subscribe to it. Then they will generate a link for you to clone a repository, and the submission of that project will be made via git.

The very first challenge…

“Space,” it says, “is big. Really big. You just won’t believe how vastly, hugely, mindbogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it’s a long way down the road to the chemist’s, but that’s just peanuts to space.”

At my very first day of the Piscine, I was *very* anxious about what to expect. Hopefully, dear reader, you don’t have to feel like that if you read my post about preparing for the 42 Piscine. (If you didn’t and you want to, just click here.)

At 9:42 we had our first Kick-off, a virtual event with the 42 staff…
